The summer season is quickly coming to a close, and in two weeks, it will be September—the official start of meteorological fall! While there is likely more heat and humidity for us before the cooler air settles in, there will certainly be a taste of fall for areas across the eastern United States this week as an upper-level trough builds in.
As we head into the coming days, a deep upper-level trough will continue to dig into the eastern portions of the United States, with a large upper-level ridge extending across the central U.S. and into Canada. The trough across the eastern portions of the country will allow cool, dry air to build in and remain through much of the workweek.
How cool will it get? Current forecasts call for daily high and low temperatures to be 10-20° below average from Monday through Thursday in portions of the Midwest and into the Northeast! Areas from Wisconsin to Indiana to New York will likely see morning low temperatures on Wednesday drop into the 40s.
While the days will start chilly, afternoon temperatures are expected to be pleasant! Monday through Wednesday of this week will feature highs in the 70s across the Midwest region, with some areas in the Northeast only reaching the 60s. With dew points remaining low, it will be very comfortable throughout the week.
However, don’t get too used to the cool weather. Data indicates the return of an upper-level ridge by the end of the week and into the weekend. This will allow hot temperatures and increasing humidity values to return across the eastern U.S.
